The Yoke Problem

   Starting in 2022, Tesla replaced the conventional steering wheel in the Model S and Model X with a yoke. While it garnered media attention, the yoke offers little practical benefit and can compromise control, especially in high-speed situations. For a vehicle as fast as the Model S Plaid, this unconventional design introduces unnecessary risks. Despite Tesla’s strong crash ratings, no one wants to reach for empty space in a critical moment and risk an accident. We believe the solution is to provide a complete steering wheel, giving drivers the control and confidence they need.

   As of March 22, 2022, other options for converting the yoke into a full steering wheel require sending in your original Tesla yoke or sourcing a spare, which is both costly and challenging due to the vehicle’s newness. Modifying the factory yoke is time-consuming, expensive, and may involve tampering with its built-in electronics. Sending in your yoke also means you won’t be able to drive your vehicle until the modification is completed and returned. Additionally, once you alter your original yoke, reverting to the stock configuration isn’t possible, potentially voiding warranties.

The Yoke Solution

   Our proposed solution is a kit that transforms the yoke into a more conventional and intuitive steering wheel by adding the missing top half. It’s easy to install, seamlessly integrates with the car’s interior design, and utilizes the same high-quality materials already found in the vehicle—carbon fiber and machined aluminum. The kit can be reverted to the original yoke configuration at any time.
